ughh. Grad-work.
Master's level
Many in the class seem to have poor English skills. AND, we write the questions for each other to answer in discussion (online)

3 days I've been reading the same two questions over and over. They don't make sense. They're about the same as saying, "who processor do you think taste better, AMD or until."

yeah, well, they will become computer geeks NOT English teachers.

Laugh now. Some of these people might be teaching your children.

The grammar and spelling nazis here would spend days of their time correcting posts in our grad forums. Yet, the people making the posts are going to be teachers some day. I find some of the grammar and spelling mistakes to be completely unacceptable, especially from some of the grad students who are already teachers. (not to say that all of them are that bad... but some of them, wow.)

Dr. Pizza has a good point. Many of the grad students i've worked with at Berkeley had very poor english and communication skills. I can barely understand what they are saying sometimes. It doesn't matter how smart you are, when you say "EEN General..." about a thousand times just to communicate basic ideas you're asking for children.

This people will be teaching your children, so be very afraid.

Yeah, but when they spell it "in generol" and consistently spell it the same way, AND they teach at a real school in the U.S., I then wonder how badly some areas need good teachers. But, that's not necessarily saying they're not good teachers. But, based on their writing skills, I'd want to observe a few of their classes before I was comfortable with my children there.

You should be glad you're not in my school. I'm a freshman undergrad but somethimes the stupidity of my fellow freshies amazes me. I was in my sociology class last Tuesday and this group of girls were talking about some project. One of them says something along the lines of "so she sent me her report so I could *pause* revisioned it." At that point, I got up and moved for fear of my brain cells dying. I'll admit that I suck at grammer/english in general but the aforementioned incident was just mind blowing.

was english their first language?

For some, I sadly believe it actually is their first language. For others, I'm not too sure.
