It's that time of year again.

The thread on college admission got me thinking that in a few weeks, school will once again be starting. Being a freshman this year, along with many other AT members I am somewhat curious as to what items are important for dorm life. The colleges give out some basic info on what to bring, but the info they give out is far from specific. So perhaps the Anandtechers with previous college experience can give us some tips on what exactly we need to be bringing to move in in a few weeks.

DO NOT TAKE EVERYTHING.
put all the stuff you think you need together. then leave half of that home.

A little shower basket, those are leet.

duct tape, its so handy for so many things.

for dorms bring:

flip flops
shower caddy
laundry basket
quarters
toothbrush/paste, deodrant, soap
detergent
spoon, fork, knife, plate, bowl
can opener
basic stationary
whiteboard
school supplies
computer
tv (call roomate in advance to split things to bring)
vid games
fridge

these are all the things i can remmeber off top of my head

Personally I wouldn't suggest a dorm but that's just me. Atleast if the prices where you are are like they are here. Here it's $900ish for a single person 8x4 room, $1800 for a 3 person place. For $1800 here you could rent a huge like 3 story house for that much :x Even if it's just for the experience, you could definetly have fun with a big ass house 😀

microwave
standing lamp (if you have the space and your room is dark)
hangers
Bed sheets
egg crate (not necessary but comfy =)
surge protector
alarm clock
desk lamp
sofa ( my roommate and i actually stole a sofa from the commons room and kept it in our dorm for 2 weeks before anyone caught us)
and any other furniture you can jack from the commons room.
