Woke up this morning and took a long look at my current system.

Pentium III 933
Asus CUSL2-CBP Black Pearl
512mb Crucial SDRam
Voodoo5 5500 PCI
SoundBlaster Live Value
Asus 56x CDROM
HP 9100 series burner
17' NEC MultiSync FE700

I've decided to pass this on to my younger brother since hes going to need a new puter, as hes moving out. I know Im going with Intel, as Im considering an Asus P4PE and a 2.0Ghz cpu. Has anyone had any problems with this motherboard? If so, what kind of problems are they or what should I look for to prevent them? I'm building an all around machine for business and gaming, as well as anything else I might want it for. I dont want to overclock All I'm really looking for is the most stable gaming/business platform I can get that will carry me for the next 1 or 2 years.

Any suggestions or points of interest are appreciated.
Thanks.

if you're not doing anything special, would it be worth while to just get a canned system from Dell or something? I know that there were some recent hot deals on Intel stuff from them.

"GASP!" Blasphemor! j/k

I'm an avid Online gamer. So trusting the likes of Dell or Gateway with my gaming needs are out of the question.
Besides I get more enjoyment out of putting together a system with my own hands and knowing exactly whats in it and how well its supposed to work.

If you're not going to O/C your choices are good.. but might as well go with a 533 FSB CPU like a 2.26 or greater.

(I'd personally buy a 1.8 and run @ 2.4 or more.)

I'm waiting for Cinco de Mayo. Gonna's get a lot of peach err Springdale and a 200 fsb P4. Some nice Corsair DDR400 and an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro. Why now? Get a paintball gun and do something more productive.

My suggestion would be to skip $Intel$ and go with AMD.

nForce2 MB with an Athlon XP 2100+ or faster.
Slap in two sticks of CAS2.0 DDR333 or DDR400 ram for Dual DDR mode.
GeForce 4 Ti4600
Western Digital Special Edition Hard Drive(s)

Yea! :D

I'd stick with your choice of Intel. I just recently switched from AMD and will have to be hard pressed to go back.
All I can say is Stability and proven chipsets.

I'm sticking with the Intel/Asus combo. Everytime I've deviated -SANS ONCE- I've paid dearly for it. I prefer the stable Asus boards with the Intel chips, as they seem to give me the most stable gaming experience.

Thanks Everyone for the input.

I don't think you can get a better deal than what Dell can get you. Seriously Dell is good stuff and cheap. They can hook yyou up with the Radeon 9700 Pro or GF4 Ti4600 and anything you could want in a system that you could build and it would probably cost less with monitor than you can build it for. Price it out and see. It may not be such a bad idea since ASUS is a bit expensive and alot of people only buy it to overclock and since you're not overclocking it may be a good idea to go less expensive.
