Mom needs new hoses. She wont admit it. She wont like it. But she's getting them whether she likes it or not.
She also needs two new nozzles.

What is the best brand of garden hose?
Who makes the best quality nozzles? (Wont break after a couple years of light use.)
Who makes the best quick connect fittings?
Should I use silicone lube on the threads?

We had to cut back drastically on what we do in the back yard since we had our triplets. Last summer they basically used the Hasta to clean their hands when they got muddy and later used them as shoe cleaners.

So ya . Hasta la vista baby.

Spring you say? It is summer where I live (as it is most of the year!).

I like the solid rubber hoses, 3/4 diameter if available, the best, usually you can find one on sale at Sears.

We've had 2 of these for over three years, they're an excellent investment.

For nozzles I like these, they seem to be the only ones that really get my pool filters clean. http://www.amazon.com/Bon-Aire-Origi...2005149&sr=8-4

Do they last? I'm sick of wasting money on the cheap nozzles from Lowe's & HD - the adjustable-spray models start leaking after a few months.

I hate cheap nozzles too. Got some nice ones from Amazon. Will let you know how they work. Hopefully they survive more than a year.

I had a cheap 'no kink' hose and that sucked ass. Kinked all the damn time. I picked up a rubber hose from Sears (through a slae listed on slickdeals) and almost never have a problem. Thing can take a beating too. It has lasted over 4 years to my not so gentle use and frequently gets driven over

Definately worth the investment. Life is too short to deal with a shitty lawn hose

i recently got a "neverkink" 5/8's 50" hose from Lowes. Sort of needed it right away. Bought a reel for the side of the hose for it too. I kept have kink issues with it when i first tried to reel it out. I found you had to stretch it all the way out then reel it in. After that i havent had a problem with it at all.

As for spray nozles. I have a like 8 dollar one i got from Fred meyers. Works just fine. I do use teflon tape on the connections (since i have more than ill ever need lol) and havent had a leak anywhere in a couple months worth of use.

As for the garden....will be building it in about a month. Roommate and I are going to do it together. probably be fairly good sized though. Going to use those blocks to raise it up ~2 feet, line it with the garden liner crap then fill it with good soil. Then going to build a simple PVC pipe drip irrigation system for it.

I've had mine for 6 years, and it still works great. It makes much better pressure from the hose than some of the cheap ones. Mine came from Sears, I just linked to the one at Amazon because it looks just like it, nt sure if it's the same.

Read all the horror stories of people making their own pools. Then accept the fact you will probably not want one that much.

I'm not really trying to build anything big, probably somewhere around 8ftx6ftx5ft. Just a place to chill in the punishing Florida heat. :D

For that size search for someone who has built a DIY cistern. You may only find information on round ones though because it is easier to build round stronger(?).

If i was building one that size I would not even put a drain in the bottom. I would put the piping over the side under a set of steps and use the pump return for a whirlpool effect.

Put a bench all the way round and call over some friendly people. :)

When is the right time to plant some roses? Wife is wanting to get them going this year but not sure when to stick them in the ground.

Where do you live? I'll check up on your weather.

Oh, roses do better in slightly warmer areas. Virginia had low 80's this past week and provided the ground was ready this would have been a perfect time to plant them. Our long warm autumn helps too. In the winter you need to trim them back and offer protection from frost.

They work out fine in my area. We have been hitting the high 60's over the past week and next weekend should start seeing some 70's.
