it's so quiet in here...

..so I wanted to watch a dvd tonight and unfortunately all i had to replace my defective ti4200 was a trident 1MB POS PCI card...DVD's would play period.

So i decided to my DVD drive and sound card into my HP vectra 700mhz pIII desktop and put the other pc (2400xp+) i nthe clost but still plugges in to the network.

WOW is it quiet in here. My regular antec case has like four fans, a scsi HD and the alpha 8045 is A BITCH in terms of how loud it is.

Now, however, my typing is actually louder than the pc. I was actually watching a dvd @ volume 9 (out of 60) and it sounded quite loud when 20 is bearly audible when i am using the other pc.

I am still RD'ing into the faster pc which is in a closet for now, but man, this is addictive.

I just built a 2500+ barton mahine for someone and it was pin-drop-quiet.

That alpha is going in the trash SOON.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What kind of PSU and video card cooling are you using in the "pin drop" quiet machine?

I'm using a TruePower right now and I'm lookin for something quieter.

Stock HP PS and Integrated G200 AGP 8MB

Yeah..this thing is somewhat of a POS but it plays music and movies fine.

I have a truepower 430 in my main machine and that by itself is quite quiet. Pretty much the case fans and the ALPHALPHA 8045 CPU cooleer with a SUNON ( :| ) gazillionrpm fan are unbearable.

my breathing is louder than this thing.
did you have to walk across the room or something?

heh...this isa business mahine. I am about arms-length from it right now at stomach level and it is silent.

<----did a 42miler on his bike the other day...ie..not a fat pg as you might suggest...
😛

Why? Heatsinks are intrinsically silent. The culprit is the vaneaxial fan bolted on top! Purchase a quiet fan! A thermostatically controlled fan is your best bet. It will only be audible when the processor is constantly pegged at 100%. Watching a DVD is NOT processor intensive.

It was more of a figure of speech. I will most likey be putting a case fan on the heat sink and trash the sunon fan.

THe heat sink on that bad boy is a keeper.

same here...too bad this thing is so slow or else I would keep it as my main pc

It is for the video card if it is a 1MB POS trident card or a matrox 8MB....the later is actually ok @ 16bits...
