Lol that's awesome. At this place I used to camp as a kid the squirrels and chipmunks were super tame. We were always feeding them and some would even let us pet them. The squirrels seemed to always like me too, maybe it was the red hair.

The squirrels will fight rattlesnakes down here too.

I see little chipmunk like things (they look more like mini-prairie dogs though) all over (see them dart across the road now and then, and at this one park we would go to there were a bunch of them in the rock walls (they're just bunches of rock with some metal netting holding them together, so lots of little crevices).

I have this framed in my kitchen overlooking my bird feeders.

This reminded me of this video we watched in science class in high school, where supposedly this squirrel was going around beating the shit out of people (there were like 3 adults that went to the hospital over it). They had re-enactments and they were hilarious. They'd show the squirrel like stalking people and hiding from the police (no joke, they showed a police car driving down the street slow looking for the squirrel, and the squirrel was hiding on the opposite side of a tree and would poke its head out over and give a menacing look).

People (idiots) feed the hell out of urban squirrels. That's not at all unusual. I often have to chase them away in my backyard as they come right up to me expecting a handout.

Squirrels are weird. One time one got close enough for me to toss acorns at it, you'd think it would freak out when the acorns contacted it (gently), but it was oblivious and treated the acorns I was throwing like leaves falling from a tree - not a threat. It's like his brain short circuits and does not compute something that wouldn't be a threat in the wild.

If a squirrel or chipmunk could be potty trained and do not carry any lethal viruses , it would be great fun having one as a pet.

A squirrel as a pet would indeed be pretty awesome, it would be like having a kitten that never grows up. They are crazy and silly little guys. If you get one that is raised BY a cat, they will actually learn to use the litter box and basically be like a cat. Only thing that might be a challenge is the chewing. They need to chew stuff to keep their teeth from overgrowing so they'd almost need to be trained to chew only on chew toys.

Aha, well that chewing will work out fine if the teeth setup is anything similar to a hamster.
Hamster teeth wear out themselves when chewing tough nuts and other chew goodies.
And the upper and lower teeth when making contact when chewing are constantly sharpened as chisels.

Squirrels can become 5 to 7 years old.
I wonder how old chipmunks get ?
