It's pretty pathetic when...

At a baby shower, I won the sippy-cup drinking contest and got a $25 gift card for best buy. I decided it was time for a new game. Q4 looks good so I pick it up... DirectX 9 hardware support required. Crap. I have an AIW 9000. DX8. 🙁

So I go back and see what cards they have. Hmm... PNY 5500 has DX9 support. 256m ram and everything. (My 9000 has 64 I think, maybe 128.)

Price? $50.99! Using my gift card and $4 worth of those best buy bucks from McD's and I was out of there for under $25.

I load up HL2 (since I didn't have the $$ for Q4 after buying the vid card), WOW! What a difference with AA turned on! Sweet!

Not bad for a $50 card on my old Barton 2500 rig. 🙂

I think it's time to get back closer to the leading edge. heh

😀 lol

i'm in need of an upgrade too... 9600 pro... :Q

(although, it runs everything i play good enough for me... so far)

Yep...so many cards in the $50-$100 range that'd work fine 🙂...most of the boxes I put together use the 5500s, or 9600XTs (you can find them for about $100 now), nobody's complained yet.

I have a 5200 Ultra in one of my rigs...while I do not use it to game anymore (SLI in my main rig now) it can still run delta force black hawk down with AA and AF at full and everything on max.....

i'm using a 9500pro with a 2500 barton. i don't know how much longer i'll be able to resist upgrading

I still have an MX440.

Yeah, me too. The things been running ever since it was bought back in '99. That 6 years for a vid card! And it's still going strong!

You guys are bitching? I'm using a GeForce 200MX
I bought a 5200 in the FS forum a year ago here and it pooped out on me in like a week so back to the 200mx

I have a Dell 700m laptop. I'm stuck with whatever built-in video chip it has. I don't even care because I'm not into PC gaming anymore.

Come on over and watch me play cod2 or FEAR and it'll cost you a few hundred bucks. 😉 😀

why?

my unlocked/ oced 6800 is doing quite well.

The first time I played CoD2 with my 6800, it was truly a LOL moment. I think I was getting 2 FPS or something, no kidding! It's playable now at 640x480--sad.

I have a Geforce 4 Ti4200 that plays my only game (NFSU2) very well. However, I think that I may have to upgrade because I want to start recording HDTV with my computer, and I understand that you need a card that supports DX9 (apparently the GFTi4200) is not one of these cards.

So, could someone please explain why my card does not support DX9, even though I have DX9 installed on my system?

I want to upgrade so I can buy a 1080P display and run WoW at 1080x1920 with 8x AA

Currently I'm just running it at 1280x768 on my 720P display with 4x AA
