Did you try hitting the insert key, while powering up?

Also, if you got that stuff on anything but the core, you could have a problem.

If it won't go, it's probably a dead birdie....those are the signs. :(
Look closely at the core to be sure not cracked or chipped.

The most common way to damage a cpu in a short amount of time is by running it withoug A HSF or if the HSF dose not sit properly on the core. If you didn't run your system without the HSF or you are sure you attached it proplerly I would check the wiring. Make sure everything is pluged properly. Also check any jumper settings. It sound simple, but we all make mistakes.

You said you unlocked the processor. Via "pencil trick"? If that's the case make sure you didn't smear the pencil markings and accicentally connected any of the L1 Bridges together. That will definitely damage the cpu.

One last thing, this might be a pain, but to be sure try reinstalling your "old" board and see if you get the same results. For all you know your new board might be defective. Let us know what happens.

I did reinstall the old board...Shut down in like 4 seconds.. Nope not pencil trick.. Loctite Rear Defogger..It was running fine like that before though...

I think the thermal paste is contacting some other parts.I am gonna try cleaning it real well and seeing if that works..If not gots to buy a new one..

I have tried eveything I can think of as far as swapping connections cables...I will update if I am successful..

Kevin, I've been having a problem, lately with 1GHz TBirds. My average is 1 out of 10 being RMA'd so far. The ones that die are doing it within the first few seconds, just like you said. :(

It's a pain for sure.
I don't know why it's happening, as this is prior to overclocking and in all cases the Heatsinks were installed before powering up.

Hmmm, i only ask because i got a new power supply for my k7, 800 Tbird-- r2 r3 r4 r5 all red. After 3 to 4 seconds, off. On the msi Diagnostic led Card four red led's mean system power on. if system powers off after four seconds it might be a bad power supply, and i did say MIGHT BE. A red green green red led is the processor initialization. I replaced it with another power supply and bingo. another power supply might be worth a try BUT please dont spend the money on my word. Just letting you know what worked for me.

I have only had this PS about 2 months.. :( It was working fine on the Pro2..Then not working on the Raid board..Then I put the pro2 back in and all the lights were red then dropped out after a few seconds..
I dunno kinda makes me wanna go back to Intel :(

BAMAVOO, i cant see why putting that 1 gig into the raid, it doesn't work, putting it back into the pro2 and it still doesn't work, and like you said it did
work fine. i dont think a mobo swap will hurt the cpu.
Now both boards dont work.

p.s. Dont give up on Amd. There great cpu's and cheaper then intel.

I am not gonna give up on em..I really liked that cpu..Now I gotta spend more money on this stupid thing.. :|

Bad part is I know it was my fault not the fault of the board or the cpu..Just sucks is all!

Someone you bought it from must have a receipt. BTW, what were you doing buying a cpu without me? If you had, this would be a non issue and another one would be on its way to you. :(

Sorry guys can't really contribute much to this forum but what does hitting the insert key do to your system at start-up "compuwiz1" or anyone else that can answer this????
