IT'S ON... Taliban officially declares Jihad against the United States of America

Just saw this on FNC, apparently from Reuters, they've declared a Holy War on us.

MSNBC is also reporting this, not many details yet.

KABUL (Reuters) - Afghanistan's ruling purist Taliban movement has announced a jihad, or holy war, against the United States, according to a broadcast on the Taliban's Voice of Shariat radio monitored by the BBC.

"I would like to tell my people that our jihad will be formally resuming against the Americans," the deputy chairman of the Taliban Council of Ministers, Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhond, said in a speech broadcast late on Monday.

Akhond said it was unimaginable that the "terror attacks" against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon had been committed by the Taliban or by Osama bin Laden.

"But the USA and all imperialists in the world, Jews and Christians and their supporters are intending to destroy the Islamic order which has been established at the cost of your blood under this pretext," Akhond said.

Or the US barracks bombings in Saudi Arabia

You both have a legitimate point. According to them this is merely a 'redeclaration.'

The difference is this time we are paying attention, and they are openly insulting us. If you had any hope that they would hand over bin Laden, I think you can flush it now.

BTW I think it's time to watch out. If they got the guts to declare a war before we do, they must have something in mind.

Heh heh.. But don't you see? The nation is LED by a fanatical "religious" organization.

But in all seriousness, I believe this is indeed the first and only time the taliban/Afghan government officially has declared war (or a jihad) on the US. Previously, it were individuals (like osama), not the government. I could of course be wrong however.

Expect bush/congress to convene and officially declare war on Afghanistan tomorrow. Scary stuff I tell you.

Regardless of whether or not the US or the rest of the world recognizes the Taliban, they are [for the most part] in control of Afganistan. There is a huge difference between declarations made by the Taliban and those made by groups like Hamas.
