This is what we call Iraq. Blow shit up using tax payer funds, then spend more tax payer funds to rebuild the infrastructure we just destroyed.
Well - it worked pretty well on Japan and Germany. I'm just sayin' . . .

It might well not work in Afghanistan, but there's no reason it can't work in Iraq. If it doesn't then I propose we flatten everything in Iraq and Iran, turn it over to Kuwait, and create one mega-nation called Irate.

ericip owned...color me surprised. The Party of Intellectualism apparently has a large tent...a very large tent.

A very large tent, but a very short bus. :D

Seriously, I think the stimulus was a huge boondoggle, but if it had very low levels of fraud, and provided at least SOME real benefits, that's better than nothing.

several hours (couple hundred miles) of i84 were repaved in Oregon that were perfectly fine, for one.

In GA, we've got a 50 mile road that hardly anybody drives, was paved 2 years ago, and was just repaved with the stimulus money.

Most wasteful spending I've ever seen. I voted for hope and change, what a crock of crap that was.
Do you work in construction? How do you know that those roads are fine? Asphalt and concrete are finite, they wear and the amount of patching is figured into how soon a road is redone. How thick was the road when it was made?

In your case I can see the problem of a 2 year old road being repaved. Who is at fault in this case?

Not the stimulus....

If you look at other parts of the country some counties are actually converting roads into gravel roads...... third world countries have better infrastructure now.... we can waste time looking at .something percetages in regards to waste or we can do something about the problem.

This is the same as the fauxrage over pork...less than half of a percent of any given budget and has been dropping for a generation..

Another BS fauxrage.... medicare is the most efficient and well run health care product in the world. The amount spend on administration is hundreds of percentage points lower than any insurance company...

I have lots of family members in construction. The amount of projects being rolled out right now is very good and to a greater extent than we have seen for many many years...

Yes I do, thank you very much.

You cant please everyone

I have yet to see a piece of scholarly work showing we would be better off without the stimulous

We do still need naysaers though, it keeps the gov in check
This is why guys like Ron Paul are important. They keep people on their toes.

Also, what do you define as fraud? If I just take money and do nothing, that is obviously fraud. What if I hire a relative to do a make-work job that has no net benefit? Does that count as fraud?

I used to think I could never make it as a stand-up comedian, but that was before I knew people could write something as funny as this. Now I just need to hire you and I can go on the road and become fabulously wealthy.

Amazing that the "most efficient and well run health care product in the world" has spawned an entire industry of products to protect you from things not covered. But I'm sure that's due to FoxNews spreading lies and Republican propaganda.

Public insurance like Medicare is usually a baseline, to which you can add whatever additional insurance you want. That's the way it works in most of the developed world, and that's how all insurance in this country should be. 100% private for profit insurance is a sick joke that has been played on the American people for half a century, and as a result our medical spending is 2x the next highest country's while our life expectancy and infant mortality are abysmal by first world standards.

Oh FFS, seriously? I expect such blind stupidity from sock puppets like PokerGuy and PeshakJang, but you've shown you can be smarter than that.

My home owner's insurance doesn't cover flooding, acts of war. or anything under my $1,000 deductible. I have to buy other, special coverage for expensive jewelry. my photography equipment, and any livestock I might choose to keep. Guess that proves it's not well run, huh? My dental insurance only covers 50% of orthodontics and it won't cover titanium dental implants. Another inefficient product, right?

Medicare is not a magic wand. Like all insurance programs, it covers some things and doesn't cover others.

manimal you do realize there are health industry workers here right? i've yet to see them say anything good about medicare.

As a health insurance industry worker, Medicare is run damn fine and the commercial plans I review could learn a lot from them.

My wife works in medical billing, and her take on Medicare and all other government health plans is that they're a complete clusterfuck.
