Just saw it on CNN... Kinda lame but I doubt that they would have released it all that much earlier had the source code NOT been stolen. Lame lame lame lame. Good thing is that video cards will be a bit cheaper when this game finally does come out (Summer 2004, prolly).

Aren't y'all glad you rushed out and bought 9800s? So much for their bogus benchmarks and whatnot. $6 million in ATI payola down the drain. Suckers.

The delay was a direct result of the code theft. They announced the date, planned on shipping and announced the delay without reason after they discovered the theft. This just makes it official, whoever stole the code took a game that was days from being gold and delayed it 4 months.

There will be newer, better video cards that everyone will want to buy. And they'll be just as expensive as always.

Yeah, but hopefully by April 2004 there will be 9700 or 9800 Pros for ~$150. What I meant to say is that by April 2004 the cards capable of running HL2 well will be a lot cheaper than they are today, not to say that video cards will all drop price to sub-$200 forever after HL2 is released. Ya dig?

Apparently the delay is not official yet, not from Valve software anyway according to halflifesource.com

They seem to have talked to valve today October 7th and this is what they say.

"Our exclusive visit with Gabe Newell and Valve Software did confirm that only a SMALL PORTION of the source code was taken. This is different than most of the reports. The entire source was not taken. Straight from Gabe Newell. No Mention Of Half-Life 2 Delay. So far Half-Life 2 is shipping for the HOLIDAYS."

So until valve software confirms it it's still in the air. (just being hopefull here).

That sucks.
I pre-ordered HL2 a few months back. Hoping to get it on Sep30th. That`d give me 3 weeks to complete it, then a month to complete F-ZeroGX, then i get DeusEx2. Now both HL2 and DX2 have been delayed and will be released in the same month!. Decisions decisions on what to play...

You know what, after thinking about it I now have more respect for 3DRealms than Valve / iD software. At least they know how to keep their mouths shut. The irony in this is that Duke Nukem forever will probably be out first : )
