It's not integrated, that's why you see the little "*" after it. It can be accessed via the CF slot

It looks like either the Cassiopeia or the old Jornada. Probably built at the same factory. Hopefully they can hold the price down...

It's significantly smaller than those.

Price are $199 for 300MHz, 32MB RAM & $299 for 400MHz, 64MB RAM

Considering that Dell always has those coupon deals going on, you should be able to score one for ~ $175 & $260 respectively

NFS4, you should start a NFScale for PDAs! Hehe ...
"Humm, the Axim gets a 75 out of 100 on the NFScale for PDAs"

Next up could be "NFScale for Cars"!

does anyone know how the 300 mHz x-scale performs compared to the 206 mHz strongarm? i'm tempted to ask my parents for the basic model for my birthday.

Anyone know whether the type 2 CF slot can accept microdrives? Being able to add up to a gig of mp3's or video files would be really cool. (not that I have the money for the axim or the drive)

i wouldn't swear to this, but i think that since the type 2 CF slots can accept type 1 CF cards, then they can handle a microdrive. i believe that the type 1 CF slot will handle a microdrive without any special adaptor

edit the compact flash association website might answer some of your questions

Yes compact flash slot 2 will accept type I and type II compact flash form factor. And that includes IBM's microdrive. And if you already have a 1GB microdrive that you bought back then for real cheap, you will be able to use it.

But the catch is if you want internet and extra storage you will need a SD memory card then.

Look here for your solution, dont buy unless you are sure that you are getting the PDA.

Local Dell kiosks are selling the Dell Axim 300 MHz model for $199 - $50 MIR = $149.

1) How does the Dell Axim 300 MHz stack up against the new ViewSonic Pocket PC PDA?
2) How much is a WiFi card?

Is there anything I should know about the Dell Axim before seriously considering buying it?

1) Real world performance between PDA using the same processor at the same speed are rarely that much different. The only big difference that you MAY see are on synthetic benchmarks for PocketPCs which really mean nothing. So a 300MHz X-Scale Viewsonic V35 should be roughly equivalent to a 300MHz X-Scale Dell Axim X5.

2) CompactFlash Wi-Fi 802.11b cards run for ~$50 or so on eBay...a little more after MIR if you look at retail places like Buy.com

My reasoning for getting the Viewsonic over the Axim is all about size. The Axim is a brick compared to the V35:

Dell Axim: 5.0" x 3.2" x 0.7", 6.9 oz
Viewsonic: 4.9" x 3.07" x 0.5", 4.2 oz

Thanks.

I think the Dell Axim's $149 price tag is enough to sway me to buy it over the ViewSonic.

If I search for WiFi cards on eBay, what do I search for exactly?

Can you play MP3's on this? Does it have a headphone jack?

Can you use both the WiFi card and CF at the same time?

1) You have to search for CompactFlash, 802.11b or Compact Flash, 802.11b. Or go to Netgear/D-Link/Linksys websites and find the model numbers for their CF 802.11b cards, then head back over to eBay
2) Yes. Yes.
3) No, because all current Wi-Fi cards are CompactFlash. However, you can use a Wi-Fi CompactFlash card and an SD memory card at the same time though.
