The best prank is to list your friend's car like $5K under KBB. They will get non-stop calls for weeks.
 
verifying posters is a great idea, 3 years ago CL was awesome, very little spam. Today it's a good 50% spam in my area. This is something they should have done 1 1/2 years ago.

yeah, while annoying, its not so bad. weeds out all the BS. and anything to keep the spam outta there is great in my book. might be annoying for the posters, but from a browser standpoint, i like it.

Indeed. But the amount of spam that goes up regardless is ridiculous. That said, I sure as hell don't want ANYONE on craigslist to have even the remotest opportunity to snag my telephone number.

I just posted an item after reading your thread.
No phone number needed at all. There is a new email verification though.
 
Is this only if you actually POST your phone # in the ad?

If so I think this is a great idea..I know people have pranked others by posting in casual encounters and then leaving their friend's phone # instead, and within minutes the phone would be non stop.
 
This phone verification thing just kicked in, in my area. I don't think I want CL having my phone number. Oh well.
 
In my area, it depends on what category you're trying to list in as to whether it wants an account or not. Autos, boats.....they need accounts around here.

Computer junk.....none needed.
 
Craigslist has always sucked. 99% of the time for sale is broken junk that is way overpriced for actual people selling stuff. The rest are dealer "scams" from stores trying to sell stuff for even more than they sell in stores in the first place.

And if you visit the singles section it is always either the fattest, ugliest girls, or they are straight scams to get gullible guys to visit sites that try to hack your system while getting you to pay for crappy porn.

Then if you try to sell anything you are going to get a ton of "nigerian" scams of people trying to "buy" your stuff without actually paying you. Hell they try to find idiots to send them both the items and more money in return. If you don't fall for their scams they constantly flag down any post you try to make.

In short, craigslist sucks.

If you really browse and follow through, i've gotten some fantastic deals. Selling is much harder because buyers simply email you and drop off the face of the earth. Its a 50/50 tossup.

I have found 1 or 2 decent deals in about the last 10 years on CL. I still check, because of the small chance, but for the most part CL can be ignored.


Which is part of the reason I don't buy anything from ebay anymore, and rarely do the buy/sale forums here as much. 9 times out of 10 it is cheaper to find a deal for something brand spanking new for what you want.
 
I have purchased and sold a number of things through CL over the past couple years. I'm not sure why some people complain so much about a free service. Maybe if you cranky bastards were browsing something other than the Tranny 4 Male section you'd see it actually is a valuable service.
