Not quite... Xerox didn't want it, and told Apple to take it, make it, break it, do whatever they wanted. They could own it in every respect. Conversely, Apple SUED M$ when M$ copied the "look and feel" of Apple's system. Not quite the same consensual giving relationship between Apple and M$ as there was between Xerox and Apple (despite M$'s eventual court victory).
