"It's Not Acceptable to Use the R-word" -- Politically Correct Commercial/PSA

People are way too touchy. I know a family with a down's syndrome child, and they call him Lumpy. As in his brain is lumpy like mashed potatoes.

The difference seems to be that unlike racial slurs, "retard" actually means something. "Mental Retardation" is actually a term used to define a syndrome. Where as a black person is not an "N-word" and a Jew is not a "K-word", someone with Down's Syndrome is actually mentally retarded.

Still, it's a stupid and unnecessary insult.

:colbert:
There is no such thing as an unnecessary insult...

Retard isn't a slur. Its like calling a Mexican a Mexican.

The problem here is that the correct word (retard) is used as a negative word to insult non-retarded people.
