It's no longer my birthday! Still help me with a vid card problem!

I'm getting artifacts and visual glitches in games like BF1942 and CS. Also, while browsing the web I'm occasionaly getting some thin vertical blue lines over images and some table cells. The lines in the cells increase in number if I use my mouse wheel to scroll up and down real quick.

This all started when I tried to replace the HSF on my vid card (8500 128MB).

Is this a sign of overheating? Do I just need to get a better HSF for the vid card GPU? I've tried two already and, anyway, I can't see how any HSF could be worse than the stock ATI one. Someone suggested I may have gotten some thermal paste on one of the leads or something, but I can't find any thermal paste on the PCB.

If anybody knows what these signs are symptomatic of, I'd appreciate any assistance I can get.

It is definitely possible that the cooling device you added is no longer sufficient. Which cooler did you use?

I first tried a Zalman HP80A-HP fanless heatpipe cooler then, when that produced the artifacts, I switched to the only other GPU cooler I could find right away which was a blue orb looking cooler from CompUSA.

Anybody else have any suggestions as to what this might be? Is it definitly overheating of either the GPU or ram?
