Its important to have a good soldering iron+solder right?

Most of the projects I've done where I've needed to solder, I had a lot of difficulty with because of the fact my tip on the soldering iron doesn't get very hot very quickly nor is very defined. Also the solder I'm working with is quite thick so I have trouble with precise solderings. Do I simply suck at soldering or does it actually matter if you have good solder/soldering iron?

a) Yes, it makes sense to have a quality soldering iron. I've pimped my Weller Portasol in a few other threads, because I've been using it M-F for the past 2 years and it's still kicking strong.

b) From your other threads, I can derive that you suck at everything, so yes, it is just you.

I have various wattage irons from 15w - 60w and a Station that has variable temperatures. I find myself using the cheap weller 15watt iron (cost me like 12 dollars) the most because it does the job. I use this solder from radio shack it's thin and has a low melting point so its easier to do delicate soldering. Pick up some flux and apply it to the surface you wish to solder it will make life easier. After you're done remember to clean up your tips and retin them before you unplug it and put it away.
