"It's important that we celebrate a peaceful transfer of power .... You can be equally concerned about our troops in Iraq and those who suffered at the tsunamis (and) with celebrating democracy," Bush said in a CBS News interview released on Monday.

"I just think that the sobriety of the times dictate that we be mindful of the imagery of these things," said Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner of New York. In a letter, Weiner urged Bush to ask donors to redirect their inaugural contributions to equipment for troops in Iraq, some of whom have complained of having to scrounge for scrap metal to protect their vehicles.

"Precedent suggests that inaugural festivities should be muted -- if not cancelled -- in wartime," Weiner wrote to Bush, saying that the money could pay for 690 Humvees and a $290 bonus for each soldier serving in Iraq.

Weiner cited the example of President Franklin Roosevelt, who celebrated his trimmed-down 1945 inaugural with cold chicken salad and pound cake.

Bush said he rejected such criticism.

I thought we did that last summer?

Or...was that transfer of sovereignty just for show?

Or is he referring to negotiating with himself?

Maybe this is their final solution.. The transfer of power away from the people and into the hands of the neocons at last?

Obviously he's saying that our troops are in Iraq because of the tsunamis since he mentioned them in the same sentence. It's a suggestio falsi. ;)

"Peaceful transfer of power?" ::shrug:: I got nuthin.' No telling what he really meant, or if he meant anything at all.

It is a transfer of power from Cheney to Rice. Dick is getting too old to run the country.

I don't think that it is that clear from the small, small quote you cited. He could very well have been referring to the Iraqi election.

At least Kerry isn't up there giving his inauguration speech. He disgusts me almost as much as some of the people in here.

Be a good idea too with "our" troops stuck in his quagmire. If people got fed up wanted to see if the paper election tiger actually had any claws, it would sure suck for him.
Scared much bushie? Good, maybe he'll think about being honest for a change.
I hope they give em hell during the inauguration, wish I could be there....

Only Bush could spend a record amount on inauguration to transfer power from himself to...himself.

I don't know, one of the top reasons I wish Bush had been ousted was...can you imagine his "good loser" speech?

I was actually invited to be part of the security for the inaguration, they were going to put me up in a DC hotel for 6 days, all meals covered.

Didnt sign up fast enough though, the list was full by the time I got to it.

Prediction.

No attacks will be attempted by foreign terrorists. They LOVE this guy :p

One thing I like about Bush is that he speaks like Yogi Berra.

Good ones for this prez.

" I didn't really say everything I said "
" The future ain't what it used to be "

and regarding the Inauguration

" I want to thank you for making this day necessary"

Ya I was pretty stoked, too bad. Though I did get to be in DC the week leading up to the election, that was pretty sweet. DC is amazing in the Autumn.

I yet may have some pull. When Bush wins his third term, PM me and I may be able to help :D
