It's high time we had custom avatars.

Apparently the reasons against it are:

1) People putting up porn and other such things.
2) People not wanting to download too much crap.

1. is not a problem. I've visited dozens of boards with custom avatars and honestly have never seen a single objectionable one. If you want, you could even limit customs to people with 500 posts, to ensure no junior members come in just to be silly.
2. is not a problem. Limit the size to 20 KB or something, or even 10 KB. Sure it would increase bandwidth a little, but that's cheap these days!

We can also limit it to peeps that have less than 45K posts. No need to alow Neffers to have an avatar to demonstrate how much that spend time on AT.

Bandwidth may be cheap unless you are on POTS.

Also, what is to prevent subliminal messages from being placed inside the avatar and or inserting a mechansim for that avatar to become evil?

Not to mention that the Mods would be wasting precious time screening avatars. It's not something else that they need on their agenda.
