Called lil rudeguy when I got out of work at 7:45 and he said he wasn't feeling good. I had him check his blood (he's a type 1 diabetic) and he was at 380, more than double what he should be.

By the time I got home a little after 8, he was puking. I gave him a correction (18 units of insulin) as soon as I checked his blood again. The lil booger has really high insulin resistance, so it takes at least an hour and a half for insulin to start working. Just checked his blood and its only gone down 5 points.

I give it another half hour and we go to manual injections if his blood doesn't come down. Then its half hour checks until he gets back to normal and then a few more half hour checks until I know he isn't going to crash (extremely low blood sugar).

I wish there was something I could do to make him feel better right away. I've taken him to the hospital before and they damn near killed him, so that option will be in play in around 3 hours if I can't get him fixed.

For the record his A1C is under 7.5, so this is for sure not his norm.

Sigh....

Is he sick otherwise? Sometimes that can affect insulin uptake. Only 5 points down after 18 units is amazing.

his curve is ridiculous. Starts working at about 1.5 hours, peaks at a little over 2 hours and then levels down like normal. We had a hell of a time figuring that out. Tons of ups and downs right after he was DXD.

He could possibly be sick. I don't think so though. He was fine this morning when I left. He ate a big breakfast and I assume he kept that down.

Another half hour gone. Time for another check.

Yep..down by 60 points.

I think he cleared his tummy out, so no more puking. That's a good thing. I'm seriously like the fat kid in Stand By Me. If I see or hear someone puke, I want to hurl.

That's better :^)

Puking doesn't bother me too much. It did when I was younger, but I guess kids cured me of that :^D

thanks

Apparently we aren't out of the woods yet. No movement since the last check. But he was able to keep some Sprite down, that's a very good sign.

5 more units and more waiting.

I hope he's feeling better soon. If it makes you feel any better, I'm about to nod off, and will likely wake up again in a couple of hours since we have a newborn. I may be rejoining the night crew. You guys still around?

Dunno. I quit the night crew when I started working grown up hours.

I have a feeling I may resurrect that thread tonight.

His blood finally got down to normal around 3am. We just checked and he was at 51, roughly half normal. A giant glass of Koolaid will have him right at where he needs to be.

He's regular kid sick today. So that explains a lot.

Glad lil rudeguy is feeling a bit better. I hate it when I test high. Anything over 300, I get some seriously bad headaches.
