Had this for years. 1982 GW Interstate. 68,000 miles on it. It's been EVERYWHERE. Also have a HD Heritage for putting around town.
That's a lot of miles, Did you tour across the US or something? any interesting story? Any issue with the bike?

For some reason, I don't have any interest in cruisers. At first I was all about Supersport, but now i'm leaning toward Sport touring. The next bike that I would get after this CBR500r is going to be its bigger brother the Honda VFR Interceptor. I rarely see a Ducati on the street here.

Funny, there was a thread on Ducati.ms recently from a VFR owner looking to get a Multistrada and there were a number of Multi owners who had owned the VFR chiming in.

I'm going to post a picture of nothing, because I don't have one :( My wife said I could get one once I hit director. Which probably won't happen if I keep posting on AT instead of working...

No issues at all other than lots of maintenance. Did the timing belt at about 48k, have gone through 4 sets of tires, 2 sets of brake pads, numerous oil changes, 2 sets of plugs, flushed the radiator at 36k (Ready again). About the only issue was a steering head bearing that got a little loose at around 34k and replaced it.

Made a 25 state trip with a buddy of mine back in the 80's before I got married. I'm in Indiana. He had a brother in CA, and I had an uncle in Gainesville, FL. We went out through IL, WI, MN, ND, MT out to WA, down the west coast and stayed with his brother for a week. Then NV, AZ, UT, NM, TX, LA, AL, MS, into Fl and stayed with my uncle for a week. Back up the east coast to NY, and headed back towards IN. 6 weeks of heaven and a sore ass. A little over 11k miles....

Best I found locally was 16.2k out the door. I think better can be had.
There's a place in Texas with new 2013s.
From another forum:
$10,721.00. "Out the door" on Texas Bikes.
$9,449.00 "Out the Door" on "out of state" bikes.

I saw a very nice 996 on craigslist this week. Bike had 600 original miles on it and was in showroom condition. Guy was asking $8k for it which I think is a little on the high side.

They brought over over many 996s (and 748s); 916 Bipostos are actually pretty rare - they brought over 250 in '97 and 200 in '98 according to ducati (100 red and 100 yellow).

I'm convinced these will be very collectible, especially now that Massimo Tamburini has passed. I still need to get my hands on a MV Agusta F4 for the collection.

This one is a yellow Biposto 2000 model year.

For long trips, any riding and gear advice?
Wear windproof and waterproof gear? how to deal with cold/warm/hot? night time riding? etc...

If you were to do the same trip again, what would you do different this time as far as gear and preparation?

I don't wear rain proof clothing but I carry rain gear with me. As well as enough tools to plug and fill a flat tire and to make minor repairs.

Wear gear and make sure it fits. You don't want a glove pulled off your hand by the asphalt or a jacket to ride up while sliding and exposing skin.

If you are going to ride in the cold, heated grips are nice. Never used one but heated seats are supposed to be nice too.

If your seat is stock you may need a pad or a custom seat.

The blue scooter is no longer here, and I'm going to be selling one of the CX500s soon. May even sell the red scooter if it doesn't get used much this season.

Both are dirty because I really havent taken them out much yet. Streets are still pretty sandy, and the weather has been cold.

For ripping around town. 2008 883Low. Needs better rear shocks. Ive done a bunch of stuff to this bike.

This is where it was shortly after I got it. This is after I had plastidipped the air intake and front forks black.

For longer trips with a group I have a 2012 Fat Bob with vance and hines pipes and intake. It almost keeps up with the Yamaha Raiders I sometimes go out with. Im considering selling this one, because for how much I ride it, I am not sure its worth having so much money tied up.

On rain gear... Frog Toggs for the win. I've invested in one piece waterproof rain suit that was pricey... Did it keep the rain off me? Sure... Did I sweat my ass of in it? Yeah. Now instead of wet I was stinky, sticky and wet and that was on a day where the temps were cool to mild. Frog Togs go on faster, do a good enough job of keeping you from getting soaked, they pack small, and the pants and jacket can help break the wind if that is all you need from time to time.... A touring wind shield helps a great bit too.

I've never found a pair of gloves that were completely dry... Close, but not perfect.

I've done a shit load of riding in the rain and storms... At some point you just give up and say fuck it... ride through it and let the wind dry you off later. Weather radar on your phone helps greatly.

Saw one of these at the local monthly meet-up yesterday. Frankly, I think it looks kind of ridiculous with 6 cylinders for only 1000ccs of displacement, but this particular one was in excellent condition. It basically looked just like this photo:
