:) MMP sucks but it sucks slightly less than the electoral college system, in my opinion. I think a country s small as NZ should have pure FPTP but that's just me.

I'm voting National Party. They are the 'conservative' party, but no where near as right-wing as the American Republican party. Their views are more along the lines of your Democratic Party, where the Labour party is more along the lines of Stalin :| :| Labour needs to DIAF TBH.

But the e-mail I got told me Republicans vote on the 4th, and Democrats vote on the 7th?

Damn I should have applied to vote - I have dual citizenship. On the other hand NZ politics is quite pointless... what's gonna change?

I've read that a general hostility towards Jews (not just Israel) has developed in New Zealand in recent years. Is that true?

Absolutely not, at least not that I'm even remotely aware of.

I vote for devilishly good pizza franchises built next to churches and spread out across the entire RED state Bible belt in the USA.

Are they really building Hell Pizza in USA? I fucking love Hell Pizza! And I just love seeing the Christians go all batshit crazy every time they have some mildly offensive promotion.

Edit - not just Christians. Sometimes Jews get offended, too.

Nothing much will change if you don't live in New Zealand, but it's a fairly important election this cycle. Labour party has been in power for nine years and many of us are not happy with the way the government is taking the country. If National wins we can expect to see greater investment in infrastructure and broadband networks, greater private-public partnerships in healthcare, far tougher prison sentences and a stronger stance on law and order.

Interesting, I didn't see you leaning center right, I thought you were a flaming liberal.

I'm not sure what would give you that idea :) I consider myself socially liberal and fiscally conservative, although both of those leaning are only slightly off-center. I don't hold extreme views on either side.

National pulled in ~45% of the vote, Helen Clarke has conceded and a government made up of National, United Future and ACT is looking virtually 100% reality. Helen Clarke stood down as leader of the Labour Party (wow!!!) and National is in talks with the Maori Party in terms of a long term government. Pretty much the best outcome I could have hoped for. w00t!! (political drinking game went well, I'm rather drunk :))
