One of the pieces of the backplate ended up shorting the board. Good to go as of Friday. 🙂
 
Just short the 2 power pins on the motherboard momentarily. This will act as a switch to turn on the mobo.
 
The system booted up after leaving the battery out for a couple hours & without the video card. Overjoyed, I shut down again, unplugged, reattached everything, & there's no sign of life. I'll leave out the battery & hope it all powers up. I hope it's not the card shorting things out & just some safety measure like with the bios & cmos.
