I miss it A LOT !!! Especially Blacks Beach, hang gliders, Laguna, Balboa Park, CHicken Pie Shop (even though the old Hillcrest location was better than their new north park location), the pier(s), sun sets, Julian and October apple pie fest, trips up to L.A. (even thought that got old), and just so much simple stuff. The best things to do were non tourist, and free. I loved showing visiting family around, but hated missing a day at the beach. ANd the stories I could tell about Blacks Beach, like when Christina Onassis would come for her yearly 1-week visit. SHe sat there shore-line on her lawn chair wearing a GIANT straw hat, reading her book, watching (peeking) at all the nude bodies strolling by. Very few knew it was actually her.
I can see how someone can get tired of SD. The weather report was always the same, "night and morning fog with clearing by mid morning, high or 73". Hard to believe people can get tired of that, but they do. The friends I knew that moved to Hawaii lasted about two years, then they got VERY tired of Hawaii. Someday I hope to return to SD, but since I've been gone for some years, I hear things have changed for the worse. I moved there way back when SD was still pretty much a little sleepy tourist hideout. Before the traffic turned into L.A. traffic. And ohhhhh, Tiffany Hills overlooking the airport and ocean. Then they slapped a huge building right in front of Tiffany Hills, blocking most of the residents views. %#* of a %($&@ !!!
