Since I've had a cigarette.

Sorry, just wanted to pat my own back. I think it's a great accomplishment.:)

Thanks for all the "attaboy's" it really means a lot! I'm living proof that if you want to quit bad enough you will. I honestly thought I'd be smoking until the day I died. Although it's one of the hardest things to do, it's also one of the most worthwhile.
Congrats to all the others out there that wised up like I did.
Congrats to those that never smoked and never will, wish I'd had the sense to do the same.
Oh yeah, that's about $400 so far that I could put into my gaming habit as opposed to an offensive habit.

Definitely good job. My cousin smoked and then she got pregnant. Unfortunately she started up again 5 months after the baby was born. At least she goes outside instead of smoking in the house. The father also smokes but he cannot control his urges... even with the patch. So that's not helping my cousin's cause either...

What I don't get is... if my cousin was able to go cold turkey for that many months in between, why would she need to start up again?

Force of habit, chemical reactions maybe. Even now I'll have a craving every once in a while. It's hard to quit smoking, even harder to stay away. My father quit for close to a year before starting up again. Whenever I feel the urge, I just remember how horrible the first month or so quitting was and how I don't want to go through it again. I'll never forget when I decided to quit, my 5 year old was shopping with me and I was about to purchase a carton of cigarettes. She looked at me and said "Daddy, you're never going to stop that, are you?" I put the carton back and haven't looked back since. Yes, I did it for my family, but most of all, I did it for me. I realized that I had made an error of judgement in my late teen years, and then and there I resolved to correct it. A smoker can attempt to quit for a plethora of reasons, but will only succeed if they truly want to do it, at least IMHO.
