Here we go again. Worth the drive for anyone remotely close to a MicroCenter. I7 920 for $199.99. Make sure you confirm D0 stepping at pickup by checking for code SLBEJ on the box.

I picked one up at MicroCenter the last time and the sales rep knew immediately what I wanted when I checked the code and he very politely went in the back and brought out a D0. 😀

Sorry if this is a dumb question but what is D0 stepping?

Not dumb at all....

It's kinda like Rev. 1 , Rev. 2 , etc......its just the latest build of that chip and in theory should run cooler and perhaps overclock farther.

ok thanks

I just called their orange County facility nearest to my home. No luck getting them to ship it to me.

why the F can't I find deals like this in AZ.

Just back from MC Westmont, IL. Got one E0 stepping Q9550 and one D0 stepping 920. Obviously that MC store has enough i7 920 in stock, as they easily found a D0 stepping 920 for me.

I just order it from Microcenter and accidentaly closed page with order number, will they send me confirmation number by email ?

Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping Preview

The first test results just blew us away and we wanted to share one particular result today. We are still testing and will have a full article up in the near future featuring a variety of motherboards and cooling choices, but at this moment, the D0 920 stepping provides real and tangible benefits for the overclocking community over the previous C0 steppings . . . . These improvements have enabled us to achieve higher overclocks at like or lower voltages, higher memory speeds at like or lower voltages, and as a result, our CPU, PWM, and case temperatures are down while overclocked numbers are up.

It would be nice if they shipped these as they wouldn't charge tax for out of state customers. Since they don't it's obviously a loss leader. Is anyone willing to ship one of these for me? 🙂 My C0 isn't setting the affinity correctly and I need a D0 replacement. I thought there might be some of these on Ebay cheap but I don't see any. I guess I could pay $280 at Newegg.

FYI, I just bought one of these a few days ago at their "regular" price of $239.99, and today they were willing to credit me the difference just by presenting the receipt. They didn't even ask for me to bring in the CPU.

The Microcenter in Westmont, IL didn't have any D0's in the case as of yesterday although they had a bunch in stock. The sales rep said that all remaining were C0's. But all is not lost....

I went to Fry's in Downers Grove and they price matched. They do have D0 in stock. It took a while (approx 15-20 mins) but they matched it.

I got a D0 at the Duluth, GA location this evening. Should be fun when I get the rest of my parts! 😀

Just got back from the store here in CO earlier this afternoon. Starting to piece together everything for a new rig and thought this would be a good start. Only problem is I think the i7 may be more than I need, so I couldn't decide between it and the q9550 (priced at $170). So, got one of both, D0 (SLBEJ) 920 and an EO (SLB8V) q9550, didn't even have to ask for the specific stepping, brought them out on the first trip. Probably just end up selling which ever I decide not to go with.

Bah! why is it always in store only with this vendor... so frustrating since there is not one in the Santa Barbara area AARRRRG!
