While I know it's the photographer and not necessarily the equipment... it would only be fair to break it down into sub-categories, ie: compact, DSLR...

Unless the "judges" could be completely objective, it's difficult to compare a 2mp consumer cam picture with a 6mp DSLR picture, IMO.

Also, "judging" pictures/art is pretty subjective.. I don't think it's really necessary, unless in a constructive critisizm way.. It's more fun just to share your work.

the easiest way to separate us ppl who have dslrs etc would be to have 2 overarching categories: Dslrs, and consumer/prosumer digicams. however this instantly doubles the number of categories etc we have to deal with. which might be ok, depending on how big this thing ends up being.

im too tired to think about it too much now, will devote some time to it in the morning. now is just random idea time :)

do you have a good way to get those scanned i.e. film scanner? the diff between native digital shots and film scanned by a HQ scanner should be minimal...

You should make a category for seascapes/general nautical. That would be hot!

Cuz I could print them out and use them to make my Texas apartment feel more like California :)

Heck, depending on what the OP decides the prizes should be, I might even sponsor that category :Q ....with the disclaimer, of course, that I could use any of the entries for personal, non-profit use...

yep, you difinatly need to have different catagories thats for sure...still life, action, human form, landscape, etc.

Will you allow more than one submission per user. per category...or even more than one submission per use for the entire contest?

Why not have everyone that submits one send paypal of $1 to one designated person... The winner gets the pot
