Is this powerful enough for DiVX encoding?

I want maximum bang for your buck, this will be for an HTPC.

I have the combo AMD XP 2400+ (Thornton boxed) with ECS from Fry's for a couple weeks now. I believe a Thornton CPU is actually a Barton with half of the cache (with 256KB instead of 512 KB) disabled from manufacturer for whatever reasons. I overclock it slightly in ASUS A7N8X, works great.

I am just getting done building a a computer for a my compay with this combo. Like always with this boards, no problems at all. Picked up a pretty cheap XDream II cooler (CoolerMaster) for $15 and it does a pretty nice job.

Nice deal!

Yes, this is good enought for DiVX encoding. At this price you can't complain.

Anyone know if this combo is available at the Wilsonville Fry's? I cancelled my subscription to the Oregonian some time ago

Hmm.. So is anybody having any problems getting the CPU & MB to work together? I first bought this combo last week, but I put the 2400+ in my Shuttle AN35 MB, and put my old 1700+ in the ECS. I bought another combo this week to use together, but the MB read the CPU as an 1800+ (100MHz x 15)! I went into the BIOS and saw that the damn thing maxed out at 132MHz! And it wouldn't even boot at that - I had to settle for ~115Mhz x 15, which put it at about 2100+ speeds. Maybe it needs a BIOS update?

RTFM pages 9-10. You need to set the FSB jumper to the proper 133MHz setting.

I downloaded the bios from the UK site and it had a 6.0A rev noted. This is a good board for what I am using it for. I have the 2600XP installed, runs great.
