I remember when domian registration was $35, hosting was $50/month or more, and unning your own server wasn't an option, cause everyone had dialup. But, yesterday I registered a domain name, today: http://fox302.com

Total investment to date : $8.95 :Q

Damn, I don't know how places stay in business at these prices.

notfred, what are you using for DNS? i'm amusing you're hosting it yourself from a computer at your home.

http://www.zoneedit.com

Free DNS, up to 1GB of bandwidth/year

It takes a LOT of lookups to make 1GB of just ip addresses.

Yeah, hosting it on my cable connection, for now at least.

i wonder how many lookups that actually works out to be. what happens when you go past yoru limit? would your site just become unacessable?

i'm also thinking about starting up a site and hosting it from home.

They bill you $10.95 for the year if you go over by up to 200mb, more if you go over by more, or they give you the option of cancelling the account within 30 days rather than paying the bill. I believe they said 1GB was roughly 5 million dns lookups.
