I watched the show based on rave reviews from friends, but I found the first season disappointing - every episode had the potential to be hilarious but failed to deliver in the end, holding back the hilarity (almost seems to be done on purpose). Does the show get better in future seasons?

Right now it seems almost like a Taboo of the week show, like South Park

I'd like to know the answer to this as well. I've watched the entire first season and I liked it overall, but I wasn't clamouring to see the next episode like some other shows I have watched. There is one guy on the show that I think is not very good, so he tends to detract from things for me, but maybe he gets better in later episodes.

The very first episode is awesome. It doesn't really let down from there.

Season 3 is my favorite though. Need to watch all of them though so you get some of the references

aka street rat, doyle bros, etc.

I thought season 1 was pretty funny, but season 2 and onward were a lot better because of Danny DeVito. There were some good episodes in season 2. You have to watch out, though... there are some really rotten episodes in there too. "Who pooped the bed" was just stupid, and the ones with those creepy brothers (McPoyle brothers?) are usually bad too (especially the one where the McPoyles hold them hostage; it's just awful).

This. But if the OP didn't think the first season was funny then it probably just isn't his style of humor.

I haven't seen an episode I didn't like. I loved when they ran Dee's car into the building, then threw an old grenade into it. It was classic watching him walk around in a wedding dress too. I wish the new season would start already!

Season 2 was better than season 1, but I was disappointed with season 3, with the exception of greenman episodes.

As has been stated before, Danny DeVito joins the cast in the second season. But if you didn't really like the first season then I don't see you liking any of the others either. The humor doesn't change at all, Danny's character just adds to it.

That's how I feel about the show and I've seen most episodes of all seasons. It is entertaining, but rarely laugh out loud funny.

I'm watching a lot of TV these days and for me season 1 is always the worst. Always Sunny was no different for me. S1 was ok but didn't have me begging for more, but as I had S2 and 3 DL'd as well I continued to watched. At times if would have been drinking something I would have had trouble keeping it in.

Yea, it gets WAY better after Season 1. I cannot wait for tomorrow night's premiere!

I so wish I was able to see the live stage show of The Nightman Cometh. Tonight's show is in NYC!

I thought it gets progressively better with each season

S2: best episode by far was "Hundred Dollar Baby"

S3: Dumpster baby and Sweet Dee's Dating a Retarded Person

S4: Manhunters, America's Next Top Paddy's Billboard, Mac and Charlie Die (Glory hole ep), Dennis Reynolds: An Erotic Life and the Season Finale were all great

Yes. Season 1 was alright, but I am much more of a fan of the later episodes. It's a very odd style of humor... well, kind of like watching how dumb people can be without shoving things up their ass Jackass-style :p.
