In the 1st floor of my house, there's ceramic tiles throughout. When it's winter, it's FREEZING in here. When it's about 70F outside, it's still cool in here, around 60F, which is still too cold for comfort.

It was 84F the other day and I had to open a window to let the air in to warm up the house...

Right now it's mid-50s outside and the thermostat is already at 60F, but still cold enough to need a jacket or sweatshirt even. Must I turn on the friggin heat on a day like this ?! Am I the only one with this sort of problem ? What would you do ? ... turn it up to 70F ?

I have ceramic tiles on the first floor of the house, but, it doesn't make it any cooler down there. I guess the 50billion windows in our house let enough sunlight in to keep it close to outside temps w/ the A/C Running. That's with tinting and plastic vertical blinds mostly closed.

I Live in S.FL.

Interesting that it's cooler inside than out though... You should just pretend it's summer.

I still have those plastic "shields" that you place on windows for the winter to keep drafts from coming in.

Is this working against me right now ? I go to touch the window (glass) and it's cold... I don't think it'd actually help warm the house if I took the plastic off... :|

... stuck between a rock and a hard place...

Simple: Rack of overclocked PCs (preferably dual Athlon MP's) with exhaust fans directed at middle of room.

God I wish my place was like that. It's April 20th, in CANADA, and I want to turn on my air conditioning.

I wonder if your tiles are mounted right to the concrete slab? Or to an underlayment without any insulation between the slab.
If they are, it would act as a giant heat sink.
Try an area rug and a fan to circulate the warm air back to the floor.

Possibility about the tiles on slab theory... don't really know, but there's no basement and the house is all on the slab. You can see a few pics of the first floor here... the halls, kitchen, and dining room are entirely ceramic tiles.

We do know the windows are old and there's probably little insulation in the ceilings... so that contributes to it.

My problem is how do I warm this place up when it's warm outside already... :|

This takes care of 1 room... my home office. As much as I'd like to hide in there all day, I simply cannot. :(

If the tiles are on the concrete slab the only thing you can do is litter the place with area rugs. If that is the case they should have built the house with under-floor heating. You can rip it all out and put in some 3/4" hardwood.

It's an older home (which is not a bad thing at all, don't get me wrong ;)),
Have you insulated it?
