But Mickelson is a god from the sand usually...

He's a god around the green usually too. Yesterday on #7 he was just off the back of the green, good lie, lots of room to work with. Hit a chip that a 30 handicapper would be ashamed of. It rolled off the far side of the green. Another chip from a good lie went 5 feet by, the putt from 5 feet didn't touch the hole and went another 5 feet by and that comeback putt didn't touch the hole either. He took 5 to get down from a really good position where even a chop would make par a good percentage of the time.

Damm Bubba, 5 stroke lead gone in an hour, he should have just putted on the last hole instead of going for an eagle, wound up giving away a gimme birdie..

if a beginner golf player (less than 1 year of experience) had a chance to play 18 holes at the Masters, what kind of score would be expected? +40, +50, etc.?

+50 would be wildly optimistic. Most beginners, if they had to follow the rules, count every stroke, take penalties and hole every putt would have trouble breaking 120 on just a moderately difficult course. Those greens kick the ass of even experienced players of less than pro level. I'd put money on +70 or more sooner than on +50 or less.

a beginner-golfer friend of mine played with me a few years ago, on my favorite local course. its not long (about 6000 yards), but has a decent amount of trees/hills/water hazards. i usually shoot about 85-90 there, but have gotten as low as 78. he had just started golfing that spring, so had a few months of practice and a few lessons.

he shot just under 100... on 9 holes... then called it a day, lol

if that guy had to play at augusta, from pro tees and with the greens at pro speeds, i would wager he'd probably shoot somewhere in the range of +150 to +300.

shoot, with greens like that, i would probably need the best short game day of my life to have a remote chance of getting under 100 total.

Boom-Boom is making a run, he's @-3 right now, it would be cool if someone over 50 would win, people always joke about how golf isn't really a "sport" but after walking all 18 holes at Augusta I had sore-as-hell legs and I was 46 and in decent shape at the time, watching it on TV you don't realize how many hills there are and how steep they are as well.

Nice chip in by Spieth

Kid's playing light's out, hard to believe he's just 20 and this is his first Masters appearance. Don't expect Bubba to just go away though, that man can flat out smoke the tee shot and if he putts well on the back nine this could be an awesome finish.

Tied up, now we'll see if making bogie on a par 5 will take the wind out of the kid's sails..
