It's all over. Dog's have discovered capitalism, think money grows on trees.

This is amazing.

"He would go to the store and watch the children give money and receive something in exchange," teacher Angela Garcia Bernal told The Dodo. "Then one day, spontaneous, he appeared with a leaf in his mouth, wagging his tail and letting it be known that he wanted a cookie."

I kinda tune-out anything I see from thedodo.com since it's nearly all bullshit.

Clickbait or misrepresented scenario (original "fake news") to maximize sharing on social media.

[edit]

The squid video in particular is one that turned me against that site:

Same with facebook...j/s.

Sigh, it's the school with the dog and the original post about the dog doing what he does.

Are they making up the story? I doubt it since students posted comments about how much they see the dog doing it, when they've seen him do it, etc...

FFS guys, I wouldn't post something I didn't fact check.

This dog is amusingly smart. My brother's annoying little ankle-biter is freaked out by inanimate gnome statues.

Who's a good doggy!

I believe the story and I love how he picked something thin and green like cash. Smart boy. My dog figured out that if he sits near the cookie jar and whines enough he will get a cookie. I seriously not to stop enabling the behavior though.

It is interesting to see that the dog chose sort of the right color.
Dogs do not see green as we do it seems.
It is more the shape that the dog chose.

I've an English Springer who's almost 6 months old. He may be the smartest dog I've had. He'll sit down and puzzle out how to do something before he tries, then does it, simple problems of course. The interesting thing is that he makes sounds beyond whines but not barking. It's verbal communication which isn't the same for whatever he wants. Again simple, but's it's obviously intentional. English Springers are obviously the best dogs :D

I agree they are the best dog, and almost as good as the worst cat.

Dogs can't see the color green. Red, yellow, green, brown all look like gray to them as they don't have green cones in their retina.

I assume they see these as different shades of grey, though, and are just as sensitive to those differences as those with color vision are. My dad was color blind, and he could always tell the difference--rather, he could say which colors in a collage were the same as other colors in that same collage and group them appropriately, even if he couldn't easily say which group is which color.

Color blind people (as with animals) tend to be very sensitive to contrast. Though I think with people it is out of exposure and experience, whereas animals tend to have a higher concentration of rods. That dog maybe could have recognized the grey of the green leaf to be similar enough to the green money.

....Oh but the other issue is that this is Colombia. Do they typically have green paper money? I'd kind of expect it to be some bold neon color or something.

Thank you for not being a cynical turd. :)

It's a cool story.
Just wanted to thank you for posting this story even though now it might seem I do so to garner praise in the mind of some cynic.

I believe that dogs see God when they look at human beings, seeing only what is real within us and that the people who care for this particular dog have not disappointed it. Cruelty to innocence exists where a person has a need to deny the God within us. Hatred of innocence is the fear of hatred for those who disappointed us and told us we were worthless. The beauty of life calls to us but we fear being open to pain ever again. The dog that was beaten sleeps within us.
