It's a steak off. Howard v spidey

spidey07

No Lifer
Being meat masters there shall be a steak off. He's a master. I'm a master.

We need to decide a cut first. I vote strip or ribeye. No bone. Pictures only.

May the best man win.

How do you judge this

Pictures. Pictures are to be of cooked steak, raw and cooked, to showcase skill. Steaks must be cooked by preferred means but must be cooked from this time forward.

I can pull up picks of my most perfect steaks, but that would be cheating. No cheating...I'm sure you geeks can make sure the simple rules are adhered to.

Since flavor doesn't really matter my vote would be for filet mignons, 3" thick. I would also propose that both Spidey and Howard have a 3rd-party AT member present to verify that only one attempt was made and witness the cooking from start to finish. Also, no thermometers. Real steak masters don't need one.

If you need to use a thermometer for a steak then you are no master. That's fail all around.

It's not a valid contest unless a taste test is done by a neutral third party... or three.
It would need to be a blind tasting by the same group of people for both steaks, and the steaks would have to come from the same side of beef in order to be truly fair. Pretty unlikely.

This contest would have to be purely about appearance - the exterior sear and interior color - since taste is not possible to judge based on photos.

Cooking a good ribeye or strip steak requires minimal talent and effort. Just knowledge. (Start with it at room temp.) While the ribeye is probably the best cut of meat without skilled cooking, I'd think that self-proclaimed masters would tackle something a bit more difficult.
