My wife bought me a 630I from dell because I have been ranting that I need a new system but I dont have time to build one. Well she called up dell and ordered a nice system. Is there anything that I should know about this thing like do I have to update drivers from them? do I need to check or change any of my settings? anything that anyone can tell me about this machine would be greatly appreciated. I just dont want to leave any performance on the the table so to speak.

Nice system there.

I would update all the drivers - most importantly the nVidia nForce drivers, and the nVidia Forceware video drivers.

Yea I thought as much. just wanted to make sure I can and if so would it be the better choice. I was wondering which ram would be compatible with a dell. I know it works on 1.8 v but not sure if it can handle 444 12 timings or if I should even wonder about it.
also I was looking over the paper work and she orderd extra fans and a floppy for my dad who still uses it. Neither never made it in the system. Just got off the phone with someone in india and oh my Gode! Yes English is there native tougue but they dont have any common sense. could not help me other than send the whole thing back! what a pain. since I will be ordering fans and a floppy. should I pick up some memory? that is compatable.

Anything 1.8V should be fine. Don't bother worrying about the timings since the motherboard might not make use of them, and they don't make any difference in the real world anyway.

I assume they sent all the necessary software with the computer? I would consider formatting and reinstalling the OS just to get all the annoying Dell junk off of there. If you do that, you'll want to be sure you have the latest drivers for your motherboard chipset, video, and sound ready to go.

Edit: If all of the Dell stuff can be removed via Add/Remove programs that's just as well, but sometimes that hasn't been the case for me.
