My fiance wants a touchscreen PDA, phone, wireless computer type thing. We are in the middle of a contract with Alltel, and don't want to pay any penalties for switching to the iPhone, and AT&T. I mentioned the iTouch, and she likes it, and I have to admit that I like it too. Switching to HTC's Touch would cost us less as Alltel will just make us sign a new contract. So my question is, should we carry our regular phones (a Wave, and a RAZR) and an iTouch, just suck it up and move to the iPhone, or go with the HTC Touch?

Well does the 'little lady' even WANT an mp3 player? Sounds like you'd be better off getting a new phone.

Yeah she also wants an mp3 player. I'm getting all this from her via email, so I don't know exactly what she wants, but what she's describing is an iPhone.

Thanks for the help. She made the decision that she's getting an iTouch until her Alltel contract runs out.

iPod Touches are EVIL! I still sit and find myself flipping threw the Cover Flow for no reason other than I find it neat to watch. The damn thing has keep me hypnotized since I bought it. I thought the cool factor would fade but I still play with it like a new toy, and I bought it a long time ago. I should have bought a model with no features. Your wife will love it, coolest gadget I've bought since my Voodoo2.

There's also a Nokia N810 - which has Wifi, can play MP3's and movies, has a touchscreen, browses the web with a Mozilla-based browser and can be connected to the internet via a bluetooth-capable tethered internet connection to another cell phone. It has a keyboard and a bigger screen than an iPod Touch (800x400) and can take miniSD cards for expansion. It has a real GPS and you can make free Skype calls on it when you are near a WiFi basestation.

if it were only a little faster in the video media playback.. I read that flash is iffy on it. The lack of flash on the ipod Touch keeps me from sinking into it.. I hit the wall real fast playing with safari.

I would not, repeat not, get that for a non-technically inclined person. It also does not have a cellular radio built in, meaning that it's not a regular cell phone and can only make calls when in range of a wi-fi connection that it has access to.
