Item not billed on CC, but product has arrived...

I ordered an NEC FE991SB 19" CRT monitor from dell.com on Tuesday. I called Dell Customer Service on Wednesday and cancelled the order. The item arrived today; Thursday.

Thus far, the item has not appeared on my AMEX. I can't imagine a company shipping something without the transaction having gone through.

Is it possible: a.) The item, despite having been shipped and delivered, has been billed, but just not displayed on my CC account. (Will it, perhaps in a few days?) Or, b.) The charge was cancelled, and, due to a mix up on Dell's part, delivered.

I'm confused...

See if there's a charge.

If not and you don't believe in that hippy Karma crap, then free monitor for you :)

It might be a good idea to call Dell. Indicate that you seem to have been shipped someone else's order, even though it's in your name. (Hell, that's probably what happened)

Thanks, Captain Asshole. I was curious if anyone had a similar experience and what the outcome was.

So are you
1) Keeping it if it's not charged
2) Returning it if it's charged or not
???

joke is on customer service, dell can't cancel a peripherals order that has already been transmitted to a drop-shipping distributor in just 24 hours... the way to do it involves filling out like 2 forms and emailing 20 people and the cancellation pretty much does not happen.

I received a cancellation authorization number, but I can't find it. Regardless of its whereabouts, I was given one. What are the ramifications of this?

I'll send it back, not because I'm a good person, but because the monitor isn't very good. The text is too blurry for my liking.

Indeed, had you ordered this monitor instead, you would be singing a happier tune right now.

'cancellation authorization number'? wtf is that? maybe its some sort of customer service tracking number. maybe things have changed since i worked there but i doubt it. call them back up and have them send out some shipping labels.

Hmm. What is the problem? Your job is to cancel the order. Their job is to not cancel the order that has already been shipped or to not ship orders that have been cancelled.
If you plan on returning it, they better pay for it.

I read of one occurance here on AT that a guy got a 17" lcd or something from dell after he cancelled. He called them and they never wanted it back. Just call dude. Or leave it in your closet for a couple of months and see if they come lookin for it.

That's what I did. I ordered some RAM from crucial, and they delivered it to a wrong apartment. Then I called them, and they sent me a new stick, but then about a week later, this guy in my apartment block tells me he got my RAM. So I didn't open it for a couple months, and then noone called me about it, so that was that.

The good people at AMEX are gone for the night. Won't be talking to them.

I received a PC and monitor from Dell once, after cancelling the order because it didn't arrive within a 2 months time frame.

It finally arrived a week after I canceled it.

I called them back, they sent someone from UPS over to pick it up. No THANKYOU, nothing. Oh well. I don't even think they want it back.

The worst part was, I had to wait over an hour and got transferred to 4 reps before getting to the right one who said they'll send UPS to pick it up.
