Itching for another "road" trip....

Many of you may remember my long drive back in 2008, back when I was "mjuszczak":

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=168398

Lately I've been itching for another trip, and I think it's going to happen early next year. I'm thinking a little less time this time, and probably a little more flying to get to new destinations. I'm thinking four corners, California, Oregon, and potentially the "South" (South Carolina, Georgia, etc.). Likely a decent amount of time in Arizona... Jetblue will be a good friend.

Has anyone had the chance to do something like this? I'd love to exchange experiences. It's too bad that a lot of the folks I met up with back then aren't on the forum anymore.

Your link seems to be broken...

I've done a lot of road trips in the Southwest (California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Parts of Utah and Colorado.)
The terrain can be beautiful but it is very desolate, especially the For Corners area. I would suggest if you do hit that area to try and go to Monument Valley.
It's a Navajo Nation Tribal Park, but it is stunningly beautiful and has a hotel on site where you can catch a sunrise over the mesas.
Just be warned that the road to the formations themselves is really rough and a while a normal car can drive the road it isn't easy. Something with higher clearance (like a small suv or truck) would be advisable.
You can also hit some of the smaller national parks in the area (assuming the government shutdown isn't still going on) Wupatki Pueblo and Canyon De Chelly look to be awesome places.

Just drove from Bradenton, FL to San Diego going up through Oklahoma and through denver into Utah, AZ, Vegas, Cali. Utah is amazing.. you must spend time there.

The south is meh.. Myrtle Beach is nice but its full of annoying highschool/college kids so if thats your thing. From the little I saw north Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, OK, Kansas... all borrrrring. But I didn't have a lot of time to explorer. Geologically speaking though.. yeah bore fest. Colorado is very nice.. I would want to check out veil, aspen, denver much more.

I've spent a lot of time in the South... Bryce, Zion, St. George, etc. Where else did you go in the state?

I didnt see much of the state but the little I saw was just amazing. We came west on 70 from Denver and then we did a shortcut on a national byway through Arches NP to 191 through Moab, Monticello, and into Arizona. Saw the Grand Canyon in AZ... breath taking.

I grew up most of my life in the Detroit, MI area so this was really new for me and maybe won't be so new to a lot of people.
