I haven't played that game in about 8 years or so.....anyone still play? I want to buy it, but have heard that everyone cheats and there is chat spam like nobody's business. That true? Should I just let this great memory of the game fade away or buy it?

And if it really is not worth it, are there any games similar to it that are good?

Isn't the Battlechest like forty clams? I'd wait for it to go on sale before you buy.

I haven't played that game in years but I kind of don't want to go back.

Someone please enlighten me on why people still play it? You know, after all the rushing and stuff. My guess is trying to find crazy items such as a Zod rune, create runewords (EBOTD, anyone?), or try to take on Uber Diablo or get that torch.

I get sucked back into Diablo 2 every now and again, it's still worthwhile to play these days in my opinion. They've mixed things up a lot, added new items and monsters, and a few new areas, and really beefed up the difficulty level of the later stages in the game since you've last played, especially if you own Lord of Destruction.

The thing about spam is true for the most part, there are a shit ton of bots that enter games to spam various farming shops, but they're scripted to only enter games with more than 1 player, and typically they're level 1 so setting a level restriction will usually take care of it. And they only stop in for a minute, say a few sentences and leave, it's not all that bad. Cheating is only rampant in open battle.net though, for single player characters, with closed battle.net and especially when playing ladder it's not an issue.

There's no cheating in closed battle.net. I just went back to it a couple months ago. If you're been out of it for 8 years, then you've missed quite a bit of stuff. Especially if you didn't get LoD back then (I think LoD came out in 2000 or 2001.)

But to get to the point:

-High runes are the main currency now. It practically took over the Stone of Jordans.
-No such thing as "leveling" anymore. Everyone is powerlevel'd.
-Baal runs are the true source of XP, which over took the Cow runs.
-The best items are usually runewords.

People play it because it's one of those games that cannot be beaten. Much like South Park's Heroine Hero. You cannot catch the dragon, no matter how hard you try.

The only way to quit is if you get bored of it. There are loads and loads of items out there. There are countless of ways to build one class. i.e. There can be a full lightning sorc, FO/Fireball sorc, Blizzard sorc with full block, a pure PvP fireball sorc, etc.

D2 is still quite a good game. I play it every now and then. If you need help and you play on USEast Ladder just PM me, I might be able to hook you up, but most of my gear is for Barbarians (melee stuff).

It's a great game. I played again last summer, got my blizzard sorc up to 90 in a week, felt stupid for still wearing full Tal's at such a high level, then quit.

Great game, buy it and get sucked in again :)

I wasted my summer playing it, was very fun.

Then I began to get bored, played less on characters, but my bot ran every night (don't ask). So after a while it became burdensome to manage several accounts of stuff (some was good, some junk...I made bot pick everything). A real life friend joined me for a month, then quit...now I only log back in once in a while to make sure gear isn't expired.

As of this summer, overkill character is "Hammerdin". Affordable and pwns entire game except couple areas with ultra hard monsters (anya/nilathak) - there you go slower. Also little (almost harmless) critters in a2 are immune to blessed hammer.

I still can't get into Diablo and I play just about every other Blizzard game, I also own Hellgate London and I can't get into that either. I just don't get it.

You're not retarded for having a Diablo II itch, no.

I'd go with Titan Quest though. Diablo II is soooo graphically dated now that I think it will bug you.

Sacred was an ok game but didn't scratch that "diablo itch" for me. It was horrible grinding too.

Titan Quest in some ways I think is better than D2. It took about a decade for someone to pull it off.

Hellgate is the most disappointing game of the year :(

I had such high hopes.

TITAN QUEST is f'n beautiful. I was a D2 fanatic. But TQ has my heart now.

I just got back into this game during break. Used to play USEast but I'm trying USWest for a change. Would like to be able to play on both realms however. One realm at a time..

i was a Diablo 2 addict for a while. Titan Quest has me now though. the graphic's are outstanding as mentioned and the Immortal Throne expansion blows away the original i think. just my 2cents.

As much as I loved Diablo 2, I actually prefer Titan Quest now.

It has better skill and class selection (because you get 2 choices). Any normal and magic item can have gems and runes placed into it, and you can get them back if you like. The town storage is much bigger and can be shared with other characters (many times my Necromancer got a kickass Spear or my Sorceress got some sweet Claws and I was pissed I couldnt give them to my other classes). Your personal storage is bigger and can be upgraded as the game goes on.
You can make your own artifacts. You get more skill points per level and they can be retrieved if you dont like how you are decked out.

Also the graphics and sound are better but both of those things always take a backseat to gameplay.

They have a collectors edition with everything on 1 DVD, its only 30 bucks at Walmart right now. I highly recommend you get it if you like simple, fun games or action RPG's. Its very easy to get into, but retains its fun factor after hours and hours.
