Yeah. In the on going effort of playing devil's advocate, I know my workplace has started a push for all of us engineers to start filing patents as a form of IP protection. So any idea that you think is creative and innovative, go file it and let the patent lawyers figure out if it's able to get patented. That way someone down the road can't go up to my company and say "hey, you stole my idea!" because you have a record of filing the idea already.

That and they also gave us specific instructions not to go out and start Googling your ideas before filing because it opens the risk where it looks like you're copying the idea etc...

It's a whole legal mess.

we do the same things here at work, i have my name on some truly stupid patents. seriously one of them is basically a fancy version of "we used a ruler to measure some shit"

Yeah, how Apple got a patent for that I don't think anyone really knows, since that's been in phones since before Apple even thought abotu making one (seriously...).

most likely because no one had patented it yet, because its something thats should not be patentable

Update: All Things D is reporting that the two patents in question are 5,946,647 and 6,343,263, the former of which is said to be "fundamental to Android."

It seems that if patent 5,946,647 is upheld, a lot of other Android handsets will be vulnerable.

Good... tell them to go sue Google then. Come on, Apple, I dare ya! After the Motorola acquisition, they probably own enough patents on fundamental cell phone technologies to keep Apple's lawyers busy for years worth of counter-suits.

Steve Jobs did say that he'd spent all of Apple's money taking down Google because they steal.

If they would have just waited another year, Android would have killed themselves and they'd have saved some money.

lolandroid.

Apple is doomed in this area, they're going to go the way of RAMBUS if the only thing they can attempt to staunch losing market share is lawsuits.

are you stupid? there is no way android was going out of business.

meh i also don't see this really hurting Andriod

well, this is the future. Apple will be out of ideas in about a year, churning out junk yet again.

Their future is that of a rather wealthy patent troll.

lol the more i read on this worse it reads. They are giving a few months to find a to get around the patients. witch they should be able to do.

Also i think apple is biting off more then it can chew going after google and samsung.

so i doubt this slows down Andriod market at all.

Hmmm.. I think I know where you work... Do you eat in a "garage"?

Just a way for Apple to try and buy time so they can get the next Iphone out ahead of the competition. Hey maybe they can actually get a 4g capable phone.
