You were going to have to deal w/ the my menu bar on the left anyway, which is just as annoying as any ad IMO. So weep not. :p

When I joined subscriptions were no longer available. Funny things is that this is the only site I have belonged to in the last 10yrs that I would actually pay to be a member of. So, if subscriptions are ever reinstated... sign me up!

:)

I was a subscriber and would IMMEDIATELY sign up if they brought subscriptions back. Anything to get rid of the ads!

How about this....

Subscribe and you get no ads and are routed through the Opteron servers

Good members with no ties to AOL get ads and run through the Athlon MP servers

Bad members or those that use AOL get ads, spam, etc? and run through a Dell Celeron server ;)

I think the explanation was that it was a hassle to maintain two different sites and that they would make more money off of advertising than the subscriptions. Not to mention forcing people off the sub servers on onto the free ones would up the page views on the ads (allowing them to charge more).

So can we assume that the nifty hardware used to run the subscriber boards will be pooled into the regular boards now?

I would assume so, it'd be an absolute waste to let that equipment die without getting any usage.

Hopefully it gets integrated, because I think the forums are kinda slow at the moment.
