82 degrees, sunny with an azure blue sky, very light wispy high clouds, and some 5-10 mph winds. It was the sort of day that makes one glad to be alive. So, at noon, I pull the Nighthawk 750 (The Yellow Submarine) out of the garage and take off.
I go cruising along some rural highways........smelling the freshly cut grass, watch farmers begin the spring plowing/planting. Stop to talk with another biker who's on a Valkyre. (Nice bike but HUGE!!) Stop to eat at some small barbeque place I'd never been to before and it was GOOD!
Now it's 5:30 and time to head home.....only 95 miles back to the house but now traffic is beginning to pick up. I get within 25 miles of the house and it's dusk and then dark. Now comes the bad part of the ride.
Riding back roads is great..........in daylight. After dark and it seems every damned bug is aiming for me. Also, the temperature is dropping and I'm in jeans and a short sleeve shirt. I pull out the light windbreaker I've got with me and soldier on. The bugs are now coming so thick it sounds like rain hitting a tin roof. My pant legs are getting covered as is my helmet. (I've got a shield on the bike but it's so encrusted with bug remains I almost cannot see through it.)
Finally, coming around the last bend on my road and I see the porch light was left on by Debbie.......home at last!!!
Tired, sort of cold, bug-encrusted, saddle sore after 185 miles of riding.
But I had a great time!!!!!
So, how was your day today?
