But after the 1903/9 updates, the thing is finally usable now, oh dear. 4 long years of constant updates.

Just like Windows XP SP0 was. Dreadful, I exclusively switched to FreeBSD at that time, it was that bad. Now W10 1909 is on par with XP SP2 & VISTA SP2 & 7 SP1, for their time anyway.

Well, at least they got the memory compression working, there is progress.

RTM XP was pretty horrible. Win2K w/ SP2 was much better, and had lower memory usage too. XP was only really matured by SP2. By then 2K was on SP4. Now that was a wonderful OS...

Never really had the pleasure of tinkering with Win2K... I think I started tearing apart machines between WinXP SP2 and SP3

Same with NT 4.0. It's SOP for Microsoft. Vista was even decent after SP2.
