I have a decent computer and a fast connection, yet it takes 10 minutes for the full load. The load itself and the verification takes so much time. Anyone else have this problem?

Also the servers are very laggy.

Although I must admit, the graphics are gorgeous, but it is very painful to play this game smoothly.

512MB :(

But a 3.0 P4

but seriously, adding another 512MB will make it go that much smoother?

the load times are just ridiculous

Yes, adding more mem will make it go a lot quicker. That, and a fast hard drive will help. What's the speed of your hdd that the game's on?

Adding 512MB RAM will make loading times significantly faster.

I haven't timed different loading times with BF2, but I did it with BFV:

256 MB single channel took 131 seconds to load my benchmark map (Hastings)
512 MB single channel took 71 seconds
512 MB dual channel took 70 seconds
768 MB took 60 seconds
1 GB took 60 seconds

BF2 uses more RAM than BFV, I think you can pretty much double those RAM values for BF2 and be pretty comparable in terms of relative performance differences of different amounts of RAM. I bet things load almost twice as fast with 1GB as with 512MB And that 1.5 or 2GB is slightly faster than 1GB.

512 is not enough. Even 1GB screams for more. Load time is noticeably faster when I upgrade from 1GB to 2GB, and no more page swapping HDD activity during gamepaly. Loading is till slow but acceptable. The verifying client time is still too slow IMO. You should do yourself a favor to upgrade to at lease 1GB since rams are cheap. Most games today will take advantage of 1GB of memory.

also load times drop considerably if you turn down the DYNAMIC lights and shadows.....i whacked these on to medium and i noticed a good speed boost in load times....it generally takes longer to veryfy than load the map now

What setting are textures on? I play the demo on my 1.4Ghz Thunderbird with 512MB PC2100 SDRAM, and load points take about seventy seconds with low textures and two minutes with medium. Disabling any anti-virus programs or Steam will help alot as well.
