Nor will we ever make that mistake again.

Your mistake is that you came to a gunfight with your fists. If you confront an intruder, expect them to be armed. Invest in a shotgun.

Yea. Imagine that, I forgot to bring my gun over to my friends house.

What can I say, once upon a time life was better? If you listen to your father's you would understand. There shouldn't be guns involved in everything. You can't just pick a fight now and days and expect it to be fair. These people that steal this crap have guns.

I would find it incredibly ironic if one of these forum members (not necessarily you) saw someone stealing their stereo, went outside to cap them and got capped themselves. I can imagine that every one of you have the "Oh I am the better shot, I will get my shot off first" attitude. I think everyone of you that has it is an idiot. Your stereo isn't worth YOUR LIFE, whether its worth his or not. That is all

well the neo-nazi reference is really minimal to the comparison im actually making
thats if you've seen the movie, you'd get why i brought it up, if you haven't, i highly recommend it

and you're mistaken, i don't have a point because im not arguing with anyone

Silicon Valley EEs may get paid more, but there is a higher cost of living, and I don't think finding employment is hard for ANYONE where I go to school with! This should not be a pissing contest and should focus on the topic at hand.

Hey, you are the one who brought up EE's. Guess what I may move to Texas and keep my CA salary. Then you'll be my b!tch. :D
Stanford and Cal people aren't exactly suffering either. I don't have anything against UT Austin. But Austin is more like Silicon Valley than it is like the rest of Texas. Take out Silicon Valley companies and their money and see how many EE's Austin employs.

you are the most elitist person I have ever heard speak.

you are talking as if Silicon Valley companies are giving out charity by offering jobs in Austin. There obviously is a reason why they put their money in Austin. If Austin engineering was inferior like you state, then they wouldn't be here, plain and simple.

The entire premise of your hypothesis is contradictory.

by chance, what branch of EE do you work in?

I don't have a hypothesis. I am just responding to these nonsensical comments from Texans with inferiority complexes who are obviously misinformed about the employment situation for EE's in silicon valley, or have info from 2 years ago. If you are happy with Texas, and Texas education, I am happy for you. If not, there isn't much I can do about it, so quit taking your fat aggression out on me ;)

i hope you do come to texas... and try to break into my car. :D

Or I could just park my car next to yours in a parking lot, and then when you go up to your car, I can shoot you. Then as you are dying, I will take your hand and put your fingerprints on my door handle, and claim you were trying to break into my car. Then I could just buy your car at an estate or bank auction. :) Would you be happy with devaluing human life that low?

I can't count the number of times I was a nice neighbor and turned off someone's car lights that some idiot left on (typically during the daytime after a brief rainstorm - storm ends and they forget the lights were on) - So, opening the door to turn off the lights for them would be justification for them to shoot me?!

Texas logic = retarded.

Fortunately, your scenario is not the case in Texas, the anti concealed carry folks came up with a million scenarios as you describe to show how common sense would suddenly be suspended when CCW permits were allowed after a background check, an accuracy test, a day of lecture & a written test.

Wow, common sense wasn't suspended, what a shocker...

I sure enjoy reading about how horrible it is here in dumbfvckistan though, must explain why the population is growing exponentially here...

If they didn't lock the door then how are you "Breaking" into anything?

Its odd though because I've done this too, saw someone's lights on in the parking lot and checked to see if it was unlocked. Sure nuff, so I turned them off. Thought about locking it to, but though nawww.

Hey, at least I don't have to explicitly point out my sarcasm. :D

I'm not even sure what your point in this whole thread is.

Lets look at the progression of posts.

you first post " everything is dumber in Texas"
beer replies " A texas EE degree is worth just as much as an EE degree from somewhere else"

you reply " Texas EEs get paid 10K less out of college compared to silicon valley EEs"

and that is where you make your first logical fallacy. All of a sudden, Texas EEs mean those working in texas and not those who graduated from UT Austin.

Unless if you really mean a undergrad coming out of Stanford or Berkley makes 10K more than a UT austin EE undergrad ( i highly doubt this), if you can find the statistical numbers though, more power to you.

wow, I'm glad I don't live in the neighborhoods you people seem to live in... in my previous neighborhood (which I moved from 2 weeks ago) I never locked my door in 15 years, except when I was on a vacation for more than a week. And I never locked my car door.
Paranoid? Or is crime that high?
Of course, I'm also not an idiot who leaves cash and CD collections laying in plain view - with the door locked. If you're stupid enough to leave valuables sitting there, then you deserve it when someone breaks your car window to take them.

(yes, I know your rebuttal... how does that justify someone from taking your possessions. Let's take it to an extreme: Leave a $100 bill 5 inches onto your property from the sidewalk. Do you think no one is going to pick it up? It's on your property, it belongs to you. Someplace between that extreme and the other extreme of having your property 100% inaccessible there's got to be a line. I say that line is on the other side of leaving the temptation for criminals. )

In your world should anyone ever be allowed to use deadly force?

Also, you seem to have a dim view of joe citizen, accusing law abiding people of setting man traps so the can murder another human. Please find me one example of your scenario ever happining in Texas...
