It seems that my CD-RW kills my CD-ROM?

Any windows OS.
CD-RW seems to take over my PC.
After about a 2 ? 4 month of use my CD-ROM would stop functioning at all.
I had to replace it. I would get errors in the error log like ?The devise did not
respond within specific time period. Time out error.? What can cause it?
CD-RW is on a separate ide, and CD-ROM on a separate ide too. If I remove
CD-RW (before CD-ROM fails) my CD-ROM would function perfectly.
So what do you think.
Thank you for any info.

Whoops, didn't see that it was on a seperate chain.

Did it work fine for a long period before the adding the CD-rw? My system here at work has scored no less than 3 hard drive kills. I won't let anything else be inserted in the system because it's power supply is most likely spikey.

Yes it work's fine if the CD-RW not in the system.
I have a hunch that it might be the quality on drives that is pure and some how it?s affecting the system.
It killed two CD-ROM on my old system.
Now my new system beginning to do the same to my DVD drive (I think).
