I know I know, K8L etc but it looks like intel has gained a huge advantage over AMD and I doubt even a cpu that would match the power of conroe would help them much.
How is AMD doing in the server arena?

1. Intel didn't take over mobile/laptop, they've always been the leader...that said, AMD has increased their percentage from 3% to 15% because of Turion.
2. Conroe is indeed crushing in performance, but not in sales. AMD continues to increase marketshare even though they are a definate second place in performance. The reason is that the Netburst chips are still 80% of Intel's shipments, and AMD has a clear advantage over them.
3. The K8L (on PAPER) should have a core that is equal to Core2Duo, but the addition of HT and the on-die mem controller should put them back in front for performance.
4. As Furen mentioned, AMD is the leader in GAINING marketshare for servers, though Intel is still the clear leader (as they have always been). For performance, AMD has the over 2 socket space almost to itself (there is no Woodcrest chip that will work in over 2 sockets until after K8L is released). Also, the Woodcrest platform is brand new, and the uptake in new platforms is painfully slow. If Woodcrest is to make any impact on the server space, it won't be until starting in March or so...
