That's wierd. Are you sure you don't mean CHKDSK? XP does not have scandisk.

Head over to this page & check out registry-hack #82 (enable/disable automatic chkdsk on boot) to stop it from running every time.

Be advised however that this is only treating the symptom & there may be somthing causing disk errors which will eventually lead to your PC failing to boot if its not addressed, so I strongly suggest you (1) run chkdsk at least one a week manually & (2) continue to investigate this issue.

Edit: Note that this website only seems to work correctly in IE.

I have seen virus cause this, It reloads the offending app at every reboot forcing chkdsk to run again, because it changes files / reloads apps.

Well in spite of the fact defragmenter said I didn't need to defrag I did it anyway and it solved the problem! Thanks anyway!

There is something called the "dirty bit" with an NTFS drive. If it gets set, the drive will run chkdsk the next reboot. It has been known to get stuck on. One of the ways to clear it, is to boot from an XP cd and use the recovery console. When you get to the console command prompt run chkdsk /p. This switch forces the volume to be checked for errors. I've seen it posted that this may need to be completed more than once to get it cleared.
