IT PEOPLE: READ!

For all you IT and networking or support people, please clean your hands after touching each keyboard!

I have a friend in that area who is constantly sick and upon further research realized that it's most likely from getting all those germs from the keyboard!

You don't even want to know how much germs there are on keyboards. According to a recent survey the average keyboard and mouse have 100 times more germs than the average toilet seat!

GERMS!

After typing this reply I'm going to rub my eyes. Real men welcome germs. Gives the immune system a bit of a workout.

Hmm, maybe I should start wearing gloves... Maybe I can get an assistant who comes with me to each computer and I can hold up my hands and she'll put on the gloves. 🙂

toilet seats are amazingly clean as a rule. Actually, I read that your typical kitchen sink and counter is over 100 times more infested with germs than the average toilet. I think it is because people clean toilets with much stronger chemicals than they normally use in the kitchen or whatever

Hey, I feel bad for the IT people that end up touching my keyboard. I eat and drink and spit and sneeze and slobber all over my keyboard. It never gets cleaned. There has got to be some sort of thin film of oils on my keyboard letters.

And amazingly, most of us IT people don't get sick at the drop of a hat... Maybe your friend is just weak.

I used to maintain the computer lab at an elementary school. I wish they made the dirty little brats wash themselves before they used the computers, because the keyboards and mice were absolutely repulsive. They were coated with a black residue that was a PITA to get off.

Most people have these things called "immune systems" which protect us from germs.
Unless you are an uncircumcised gay male living in Africa, you're not hugely likely to get sick from using your keyboard.

actually i have thought about this a lot, i thought about getting some clorox wipes or whatever... the guy who had my desk last was nasty and it needs a nice clean 🙂

jeez, we are not freakin Howard Hues here. Germs are everywhere, not just including your keyboard, wear a bio suit with massive air filtration and there will still be germs in there. some germs are helpful some aren't

I have a hand sanitizer dispenser outside my office that I use everytime I come in or out. But that's cause I have small children and it's miserable when they get sick. But, ya, I KNOW that a lot of people don't wash their hands when leaving a bathroom or touch the handle on the way out, etc.
