It pays to complain.

I was looking for ways to lower my cable bill. I have been with the same company for 10 years. I called the competition and they quoted me a price, then I called my service provider threatening to jump ship.

After talking to the manager for 15 min, he offered me a HDDVR and HD package for free for a year as well as lowering my bill by half......

WOOT.

Around here they are doing that a lot. You can play FiosTV and TWC against each other. I'm currently locked into a 2 year price freeze contract with TWC, but in 2 months I'm out of that and I think I'm going to try this.

I make it a point to call once a year...not to complain, just to see the speicals, and they usually just give them to me...this is the one time I can quote TFP and feel it's worth it ... everyone knows this.

I called Comcast after my initial 6mo promotion ended and they refused to lower my bill or provide a new promotion, so I cancelled.

I tried that when my Comcast "Alchemy" triple-play price expired. it jumped from $89 to $180+ per month. When I called, they offered me basic cable, "budget" internet, and phone for $145.

I switched.

The behavior you are getting is the behavior you are rewarding. Haggling for a better deal is fine, but I hope you were at least polite to the people you were dealing with(supposing there were as well).

I call Comcast every 6-12 months to get my bill reduced and usually get it dropped by a third to maybe half. So many opt in type promotions you can swing.

They usually require a 3 month delay between promotions.

If your bill is over $100 for cable/internet; look at getting the "triple play" package. Even if you do not get/use the VOIP option; you will still come out ahead.

This thread inspired me to call and complain about my bill, which I've been putting off for too long now. I have Comcast, and the call brought my bill down 7% which isn't great but it's extra money in my pocket at least.

This for sure. I called DirecTV about getting rid of the Sunday ticket. I got it last year for free but didnt feel like paying the 350.00 for it. I happened to get a football fan on the phone. I now only have to pay about 130.00😎
